OBITUARY.
MR RICHARD HUTTON RICHMOND.
The death of Mr Bichard Hutton Richmond occurred suddenly early yesterday morning at his residence Carlton Mill road, Fendalton. Mr Richmond was senior partner of the firm of Richmond and Reynolds, Ltd., dentists, Grcymouth, and retired from active work.a few months ago, when he left Greymouth to take up his residence in Christchurch. He had lived in Greymouth for about thirty years, having come from Nelson and taken over tho dental practice of Mr E. H. Deck. He was held in high esteem by tho whole community, and on the only occasion on which he sought a "public position he. was returned at the top of the poll to represent the Borough on the Grey Hospital 'Board. Ho was an old and enthusiastic member of tho Grey Acclimatisation Society. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs J. Laurenson (North Island), and two sons, Wilfred (Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Greymouth), and Brian (Christchurch). Ho was '64 years 6f age.
The late Mr Richmond was a very prominen Freemason, having been Acting-Grand Master for New Zealand, on the death of the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey. The following year he installed the Governor-Genera, Sir Ohas. Fergusson, into the Grand Master's chair, Mr Wilfred Richmond and Mr W. J!. Reynolds arrived in Christchurch yesterday, having made a hurried journey by motor and train from Greymouth, on receiving telephoned advice of Mr Richmond's death.
The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon.

He has been in failing health since he suffered an attack of influen?a three months ago, but no one realised that the ond was so near, He had entered the hospital on\y the previous after' noon, Be was an able journalist and before coming to Tejnuka had oect}< pied important positions on the ''Sun," Wellington "Evening Post," "Otago Daily Times," and a number of other newspapers in tho Dominion.
MR J. COOK,

DUNEDIN, Deeember 7.
Mr John Cook, of St. Leonard's, died yesterday, aged 77. He was born in Glasgow, served his apprenticeship in tho engineering trade, and served in ships of the Anchor and Cunard lines. Mr Cook came to New Zealand in 1875 as chief engineer of the Taittroa, and served in a similar capacity later on the' Hawea, Rotorua, and Wakatipu, From 1887 to 1920 he was superintending engineer tor the Union Steam Ship Company. He then became associated with the Stevenson and Cook Engineering Company. He loaves a widow, four sons, and three daughters.
