Business was not bo brisk on call yesterday and the markets generally were quiet and' firm. Buyers did not increase their bids on Tuesday's quotes. In most .instances tho margin between buyers and sellers is fairly wide. The metal market l.as improved slightly and tho shares 01 companies interested will probably show some advance. In the stock and bond section, business v is dull and the turnover daring the last week has been comparatively light. Prices remain firm and sellers &how no inclination to give way on prices. All issues held at late rates. . In the banking section, National Bank of Australasia had some attention, 50 at £8 7s 3d and 50 at £8 7s 6d changing hands, the market closing, buyers £8 7a, sellers £& 7s 6d. National Ban]; of New Zealand were dealt in at £6 16s Gd, 20 being sold at that price, buyers offering, to buy at that figure —sellers wanting £6 17s. Bank of New Zealand were firm with buyers at 59e Id, sellers 59b 4d. Twenty-live Bank of Adelaide were turned over at .-C8 12s 6d, market closing buyerß £8 12a 6d. sellers Jtß 14s. In the miscellaneous investment section, Standard Insurances were wanted at 61s 6d without attracting holders Buyeia oSrrod 28s for Howard, Smiths; no sellers bid. Activity in New Zealand Refrigerating was manifested by Bales of 500 ahares lGs |.aid at 8s 7d, buyers being .nsatisfied with sellers asking 8s Sd. The fully paida were wanted at 17s 9d, seliera quoting 18s 9d. Westport Coal Co. have risen sinco the last reported sale at lils, to buyers 31s lOd, sellers 32s 2d. Christchurch Gas remain firm at buyers 24s 7d, sellers 255. New Zealand Breweries had sale of 300 shares at 45s with the market closing at 443 lOd, offered by further buyers, sellers asking 455. Wilson's Cements show an improved market at buvers 37s 2d, sellers 37s lid One hundred Electrolytic Zincs changed ownership at 31s lid on call yesterday morning, the market later hardening to a reported sale of 100 at 325. Victoria Nyanza Sugars were firmer, buyers offering 51a 9d, sellers asking 53s 6d. Mt. Lyells wera fractionally firmer at 28s 6d, and *lO at 28s 7d changed hands—market closing, buyers 28s 3d, sellers 28s Bd. Two hundred Waihia were eold at 22a 6d, a rise of 6d on last recorded business, the market closing with buyers offerin" 22s 3d without attracting turther sellers. N.Z. Drugs eold at 66s Sd, a rise of 9d oil last recorded turnover.
