ENGLISH PARK STADIUM.
TO-NIGHT'S SPORTS. Speed stars will compete at a sports meeting to be bold to-night at English Park Stadium, under the auspices of the North Canterbury Centre of the J?aw Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union. chief attraction is motor-paced racing. Two heats of three riders in each, will take part. The final will be over five miles. The qualifying riders for the final will be the winner of each heat, and the second rider in the fastest heat. The handicaps are us follows: W. Mackie scv, Austin 75yds, ,T. Henderson 100 yds, W. 'i'. Weir 125 yds, S. A. Jordan 150 yds, E. Condon 225 yds. The tightening up of the handicaps will lend to make the racing keen and interesting. The supporting programme is an ambitious one. and comprises a two miles scratch race, tandem paced, two first-class handicap races, and 120vds and -140 yds flat handicaps. Splendid nominations have been received for nil the cveuts, the entrants including the host riders in the Dominion. The starters in the scratch race are: A. J. Rodda, W. Mackie, J. Henderson, J. Bearman, C. Bright. S. A: Jordan, C. Austin, L. Pither. M. P. .Leathern, F. Flanagan, and E. Condon. L. H. Shields, who has shown great form in distance running events this season, will be a sfarter in the -140 yds handicap, and M. A. Macdonahl will figure on the back markin the sprint. The sports will commence at 8 o'clock, and special trams will leave Cathedral square for English Park at frequent intervals.
