BOROUGH COUNCILS.
NEW BRIGHTON. A meeting ol the New Brighton Borough Council was held last night, the Mayor (Mr A. W. Owlea) presiding. Present were: Crs. F. D. Muirson, E. L. Smith, 3. C. Scott, G. W. Bishop, T. Robins, R. A, Stokes, end H. A. Glasson. A letter 'was received from the Bank of New Zealand intimating that ft receiving agency of the Bank would be opened in New Brighton twice weekly, on Tuesday and • Friday afternoons from 1 to 8 p.m., commencing to-day. Tlie letter was received. Mr F. W. Freeman, the Council's engineer, wrote reporting the completion of Messrs Eyan Bros.' road contract at South Brighton bridge, and recommending a progress payment ol £ISOO. The report was received,. and the recommendation adopted. The Mayor reported that since tho last meeting the South Brighton bridge had been successfully opened. He trusted they would all pull together in tho matter for the welfare of the district. It waß deoided to write thanking the ladies of South Brighton for the manner in which they had assisted at tho opening of the bridge last Saturday. With referenoo to town planning, Cr. B. A. M. Leaver, the Council's representative on the committee, presented a report. On the motion of Cr. Muirson, it was decided: "That this Council resolves to unite with the City of Christchureh, the boroughs of Sumner, Jjyttelton, and Riccarton, and the counties of Waimairi, Heathcotc, Halswell, and Paparua for the purpose of preparing a combined town planning scheme for the area as defined by the City Council engineer." . . The mattor of granting permission to the Gala Committee for the use of the foreshore on January 14th waa held over in tho meantime, ponding further information being supplied to the Counoil. The Standing Committeo reported that it bad been resolved that the matter of tarscaling River road be hold over until the estimatea for the next financial year were being prepared. It was further resolvod that the Waimairi Council be written to, requesting it to prooeed with the protection work on Beach road, as promised. The report was adopted.
