THE KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION.
TO THE IDITOB 0? THB TRESS. Sir,—A letter which appeared in your paper on Friday last, unless further explained, may perhaps cause some dismay among the parents of preschool children. The kindergarten class that Miss Saunders saw, a class of "20 or 30," is the only one that is to be relinquished. The* Educntion Department will continue to contributo generously (though by no means adequately) to the funds of tho various Free Kindergartens, under the Kindergarten Union, throughout tho Dominion. The Auckland Association controls seven of these nursery schools, Wellington sis, Christchurch five, with the immediate prospect of a sixth, and Dunedin six. These, with Invorcargill, form the Dominion Free Kindgergarten Union. The Education Department vrrll still set the papers and provide examiners for all students who wish lo sit for the elementary kindergarten certificate. Six of these arc at present undergoing examination in Cliristclmrch. It will tliercTore be seen that kindergarten activities are not likely to languish in New Zealand.. The Union is a women's organisation, composed of earnest, active members, who, like Miss Saunders, feel that there can be no better investm?nt for capital than that which provides healthy, happy surroundings for tho little ones, and who feel that the kindergarten is the avenue, by which this end is to be attained. —Yours, etc., F. A. PEPPLER, Hon. Secretary, Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association. JTackthorne road, December 3rd.
