3ZC. A NEW STATION. SUCCESSFUL TEST TRANSMISSION The new Christcburch Broadeastins Station, 3ZC, owned and controlled by Home Recreations, Ltd., was "on tha air" yesterday afternoon, when a highly successful test transmission programme was broadcast. During the afternoon over 100 telephonic reports were received *«»*»- teners-in, both users of valve> andl crystal sets, and in every case the report received was of a most satisfactory naU The programme was comprehensive, consisting of instrumental solos, concerted instrumental music, vocal solos, and concerted vocal music, to enaoie the transmitting plant to be Jested on various classes of music. All the items broadcast "came through" with good volume, and the quality left little to be desired, according to reports from listeners-in. Tho new station will, transmit on a wave-length of 250 metres, its power being 50 watts, but provision has been made for an increase to a much higher power at an early date. The transmitter is a very fine example of radio craftsmanship, and was constructed by Mr F. R. Plominski, radio expert for Home Recreations, Ltd.. in the firm's workshops. 3ZC will 1m on daily (except Saturdavs) from 12 noon till 1 p.m. On Tuesdavs, the station will be on tha air from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and also from 7 p.m. till 10 p.m. From 7 p.m. till 8 p.m. "Uncle Peter" will conduct a children's session, and arrangements are being mnde for an "Auntie" to assist him. A special feature of the station will be broadcast competitions on the same

lines as those which have proved so successful in Australia. Another feature will be brief talks by leading citizens and business men on matters of public interest. The official opening of the station will take place to-morrow evening at 8 o'clock, when a miscellaneous programme will be presented, comprising recorded selections bv the Don Cos' sacks Choir, the Basilica Choir of the \ atican, Rome, the Regimental Band of H.
