PUBLICITY PAYS.
PRINCE OP WALES AND ITS VALUE TO HOSPITALS. People associated with King Edward's Hospital Fund for Loudon and the League of Mercy, headed l>y the Prince of Wales, lunched at tho Mansion House recently to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the inauguration of the fund. The Prince of Wales (president of the f und> said: "In this ago of publicity hospitals and those interested in themj are learning the value of not merely rattling cash boxes, but of telling the public of the work they really are doing. "The whole trouble 30 years back, when (publicity was not understood as it is now, was that hospitals could nob advertise themselves or their work or their needs sufficiently by their own separate and personal efforts. "King Edward realised the need for publicity, and having advertised with his own voice one hospital of which he was president, and advertised it so well, he determined to use his' voice on behalf of the whole hospital services in London. "He called together a council of representative men to advise him towards the goal at which he was aiming, and that goal was making tho voluntary hospital system secure by means of a permanent central fund to collect £IOO,OOO to £150,000 a year from those who did not give to any individual hospital."
