MISS HANNAM'S MUSIC CLUB.
In these days of ready-made music tending to paralyse individual effort, every encouragement is due to those actively cultivating their own talents. Tho latest addition to clubs already formed is Miss Betty Hannam's Music Club, which, on Saturday night, in the Chamber of Commerce Hull, submitted their accomplishments to judgment. Miss Hannam, widely known as one of our most successful young teachers in every grade of pianistic art, also contrives to instil her own enthusiasm into her students. Of course in the well-varied programme various stages of proficiency were represented. And as invariably happens, the ordeal of b first public appearance played pranks on some nerves. But the impression tho -audience gnined from the first, of much talent very ably fostered and trained, never waned, but grew to the last. Admiration was warmly conveyed at all times. Among the bravest and most advanced voung pianists may be specially named the Misses Shirtcliff, Chamberlain, Townsend, and Hansen, besides those joininc in the brilliant Arensky Suite and the Beethoven symphonic movements. Miss Doreen Shaw, however, outrivalled all, being very good indeed as soloist, and quite export in accompaniments. As helpers, Miss Edna Donaldson, gifted with an exceptionally fine voice, sang excellently an "Ave Maria," Miss Dorcas Elsora reliably a Hadyn air, Miss Pearl Stringer played with good tone and technique a Rubinstein part, Miss Thelma Cusack with much effect a Kreisler violin solo, all contributing generously to an appreciated programme.
