GUN SHOOTING.
C.A.C. CUP FINAL. Ideal weather prevailed on Saturday afternoon when five teams o£ seven men each, representing the Cb.ri6tchu.Tch, Rangiora, Springston, Methvcn, and Ellesmere Gun Clubs, shot off to decido which of tlio clubs should become tho permanent holders of tho C.A.C. cup. Tho trophy has been competed for on numerous occasions during the last four years, the Ellesmere Club's name having been engraved upon it ten times, Springston Cltib'3 five times, Christehurch Club's three, Rangiora once, and Methvcn once. The shooting is at 21 clays, all competitors being on tho IS yards mark. Ellesmoro triumphed ,in Saturday's shooting, putting up the remarkable score of 140—an average 20 a man—and making only eight second barrel breaks. TSie oxttstanding performance of the day was that of J. Winchester, who broke 21 with his first barrel. Two othci •EllesmeTe men, E. A, Washboumo and F. L. Graham, scored possibles, both using tbe Becond barrel only twice. F. Alexander broke 20 with his first, and would probably have scored 21 but for an overflight pulling whilo his gun was at safe. Other men who had alt on were D. Davison (Rangiora), A. Anderson (Rangiora), using second barrel only twice), T. S. Harrison (Methven). Mr W. R. Donald was referee. Mr A. McLeod, on behalf of the Methven Club, the latest holders of the cup, asked Mr J. Donnelly, representative ot the C.A.C. Company, to present tbe trophy to the president of tho winning club. In handing the oup to Mr L. C. Lemon, Mr Donnelly said that the trophy had been given to foster the sport of clay bird shooting. It was abundantly clear that it had served that purpose. He warmly congratulated tho Ellesmere team upon its remarkably fine performance and ventured tho opinion that no other' club in the Dominion could" select a team capable of bettering tho score registered that afternoon. Having won the cup' on ten previ- . oua occasions, it was very' fitting that Ellesmere should have triumphed in the shoot for permanent ownership. Mr D. F.
