Barbour Light Theatre. There was a full house at tho Harbour Light Theatre on Saturday night when „ a double feature programme, consisting o£ a Universal-Jewel comedy "Painting the Town," starring Glen Trj-on and Patsy Ruth Stiller, and "Ruber Heels," featuring Ed Wynn, was screened, together with a comedy and- a gazette. The complete programme will be repeated to-night. To-morrow, "Naughty but Nice," a comedy-romance starring Colleen Moore, and "The Perfect Clown," featuring Larry Semon, will be shown. The supporting programme includes a comedy and a gazette, Garden Fete. As was to be expected, with, tho ideal weather prevailing on Saturday, there was a very large attendance at the garden fete at Godley House, Diamond Harbour. The fete was organised by the Diamond Harbour Golf and Tennis Clubs to raise funds for the laying out of the tennis courts, and the improvement of the golf course. Stalls and sideshows did a thriving trade, and the financial results are considered to be very satisfactory. Tho proceedings were enlivened by the attendance of the Lyttelton Marine Band. A dance held at Godley House in the'evening was also largely attended. Music for tho dancing was provided by Lea Grummitt'B Orchestra, and there were special illuminations.' Cornwell Cup Trials. The. second trial race for Cornwell . Cup crew candidates was sailed at Lyttelton oil Saturday afternoon. The boys sailed in different boats this time, .as in the actual contest. There was a fresh easterly wind with a moderate choppy sea, and sailing conditions were good. The race rosulted in a win for G. Brassell and E. Forsyth, in Pauline, with H. Norris and A. Nolan second in Wee May. The other two boats did not complete the course. Seamen's Institute. The weekly concert given at the Seamen's Institute on Thursday evening was arranged by the Lyttelton Guild and consisted of:— Pianoforte duets by Mrs T. M. Curnow and Miss Koder; pianoforte solo, Miss Eoder; songs, Misses M. Hatchwell and Hasty, and the Rev. T. M. Curnow; choruses, Mrs Curnow; song and step dance, Mr LHley (s.s. Norfolk) The accompanists were Mrs Curnow and Miss Hatchwell. Sixty men were present. Gun Club. The Lyttelton Gun Club clay bird championship was shot on the club's ground at Officers' Point on Saturday, when some good shooting was witnessed. Owing to the C;A. cup'being shot at Ellesmere, the club had a very poor attendance of Christchurch members, . but as the shoot was on the official programme the committoo decided to proceed. The winner was P. Truscott, who shot all his birds, a very good performance for a lad of seventeen. The runners-up were H. Grennell, F. Truscott, and Tisdall. The trophy presented by Mr H. Grennell was won by Mr Tisdall on the second bird. Mr W. S. Mcßurney club captain, carried out the duties of referee and secretary in the absence of the club secretary.
