THE ARBITRATION ACT.
TO THE EDITOR 0* THE PRESS. Sir,— According to a statement in to-day's issue, there is a. possibility of the Arbitration Amendment Bill being dropped for the present session. If so, it only confirms what, has been previously stated, that the agitators are wielding the big stick over the powers that be. No sane reason has been set forth for its postponement. There have been veiled threats of a big industrial upheaval if it is passed, and no doubt some timid politicians are counting heads. Those threats should be a valid reason for putting the amendments on the Statute Book without delay. The Prime Minister is reported in to-day's issue as saving: It was never anticipated that the Court would go as far as it had gone. Itis beyond dispute that the Court existi-. as an octopus upon the industries of the Dominion, and it stands as a monument to the work of the agitator, and the burden has to bo borne by those who have no say in the matter, namely, the primary producers. Aril now they have failed to earn the moM« to make ends meet there is the insistent demand for loans from all p.?.rts of the Dominion. The men who are responsible for the status of the Court to-day are the men clamourin" for its postponement with the object of killing the Bill. How will the politicians act? We must wait and see.—Yours, etc., A.b. Christchurch, December 2nd.
