Sydney, December 1. —Miss Harris, who died at Katoomba, left an estate valued at £3154, which Bhe bequeathed to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Her will asks that her dogs, parrot, and canaries be painlessly destroyed. Illegal Betting in Sydney. Sydney, December 1. —Tho growing prevalence of illegal betting is shown in tho police report. For the three months ended October, 243 people in the metropolitan area wero charged with illegal betting, and fines of over £IOOO were inflicted. N.S.W. Meat Board. Sydney, December 1. —The Legislative Council passed a Bill providing for the removal of Mr Kay from the Meat Board. Cost of Commissions. Canberra, December 1. —In the House of Representatives, Mr Bruco, iu reply to a question, stated that during the past financial year, Boards and Commissions appointed by the Federal Government for various purposes had cost nearly £500,000. Greycliffe Enquiry. San Francisco, November 30—Undei the command of Captain Basil Aidwell, the Tahiti sailed for Sydney. Captain Aldwoll is to attend the Greycliffe investigation in Sydney.
The Undignified Charleston. Rome, December I.—The War Ministry has circularised regiments drawing attention to the incompatibility of exotic American dances and the austerity of military demeanour, and orders officers to refrain from public indulgence in the Charleston.
