Markets wer» quiet and prices were firm. No great eagerness was displayed in any particular section. The most noticeable feature was the demand for 4J per cent, tax free Government issues, for which buyers increased their bids on morning call to £96 iss without any business being transacted. The market closed at the late call with buyers £96 103, sellers £97. In the banking section, Bank of New South Wales announce a dividend of 2J per cent. for three months and a bonus of 2J Per cent, for the year, making 12$ per cent for the year ending September 30th. Shares were quoted ex dividend of £1 at buyers £44 7s 6d, sellers £ls. National Bank oj New Zealand were slightly easier, and 3o at £6 17s Gd and 25 at £6 18s 'changed hands, there being further sellers at £6 18a, no buyers. One hundred Bank of New Zealand were liquidated at 60s 2d, a fall of Id. The market closed fractionally weaker, with sellers at 60s 2d, no buyers quoting. In the miscellaneous section, Dalgety and Co. had sales at £l3 la, 80 being turned over at that price; sellers offered more at that figure, and buyers bid £l3. New Zealand Hefngerating Company were firmer. For the fully-paid, 16s lid was offered by buyers, sellers asking 17s 6d. For the 10s paid shares in this company 8a 5d was paid for 100, a rise of 2d on last leoorded business, market closing buyers 8s sd, sellers 8s 6d. Kaiapoi Woollen Company had some attention at 8s 9d, 200 being bought at that price. For the preference shares in this company buyers bid 133 6d, sellers 14s. Christchurch Gas were firm, with buyers 24s 7d, sellers 24s lid, and the new 5s paid shares were wanted at 6s 7d, sellers offering at Gs 9d. One hundred New Zealand Breweries were turned over at 43s 9d, a rise of Is 9d on last recorded business, market closing 42s lOi buyers, 43s 5d sellers. British Tobaccos were firmer, and had a sale at 645; 53s 9d was bid by buyers for more, sellers offering at 54s 3d. New Zealand Drugs were wanted at 65s 6d, which is a higher figure than buyers have been prepared to buy at for some wrwks. Sellers did not offer.

The annual meeting of the Wellington Stock Exchange was held on Monday afternoon, there being a large attendance of members. The report and balance-sheet submitted by the committee for the year ended September 30th showed that in all respects the exchange was in a sound position. Mr R. Wynn Kirkby, who has been chairman for the past eight years, was again reelected for the ensuing year. Mr W. P.
