MOTOR REGULATIONS.

COMPREHENSIVE TRAFFIC ACT PROPOSED. (PBXSS ASSOCIATION TBLEOBAK.) NELSON, November 29. The Mayor of Nelson, Mr W. J. Moffatt, as president of the Municipal Association of New Zealand, has sent the following communication to the Prime Minister concerning the proposed motor regulations:— "The time allowed for consideration of the motor regulations is altogether inadequate and I request that tho time be extended to allow the Municipal Association Executive fully to deliberate thereon at its meeting on December 14th. I suggest that the use of the roads, etc., is so affected by the proI visions of the Municipal Corporation Act, Public Works, Police Offences, Stock and Impounding and other Acts dealing with traffic, that a comprehensive Traffic Act is required to consolidate the provisions of all those Acts and other Acts affecting all classes of traffic, including pedestrians." The Prime Minister has replied:— "Your telegram has been received and the representations regarding the motor regulations duly noted. They have been forwarded for consideration by the Minister for Public Works." Mr Moffatt states that tho Government had asked that the recommendations of local bodies be forwarded by December Ist, in order that the regulations could be gazetted on December 7th. The view of the Municipal Association was that it was impossible for the Government to go through all the recommendations before December 7th. A suggestion had been made that an emergency meeting of the executive of the Municipal Association be held to consider the regulations, but as this would have been attended by only a few representatives, it was considered advisable to ask for an extension of the time in _ order that tho full executive might discuss them.
