JOSEPH HISLOP.

FINAL CONCERT TO-NIGHT. With versatile and polished art, Mr Joseph Hislop, the famous tenor, has deeply impressed crowded audiences in the Theatre Royal Christchurch during the week, and Mr Claude Kingston, concert director for J. and N. Tait, who came specially from Australia to supervise the Hislop season, states that the attendances constitute u record, particularly for week-night concerts, tho second given on Thursday night proved to bo the biggest house for years in the Theatre Royal for a visiting concert artist. Mr Joseph Hislop is a world figure, and has justified his fame, and it is not surprising that the enthusiasm of the crowded audiences increase as the concerts proceed. The tumultuous recalls throughout the entire concerts are phenomenal. The visiting tenor is a master of colour. When one hears Joseph Hislop, all that is beautiful in music is realised. The overwhelming success of the Hislop season indicates how responsible Christchurch music lovers are when a really great artist appears in their midst. The final concert of the season will be given in the Theatre Royal this evening, commencing at 8 o'clock- sharp, when a grand operatic programme will be. presented, in which the singer will be heard to the, very greatest advantage. The programme is of unique interest, as it contains one of the greatest arias ever written for the tenor voice, "Vesti la guibba," from Giordano's grand opera, "Pagliacci," also "Nessun Dorma," from Puccini's last opera, "Turandot." Other items on the programme are "Like as a Bird" (Palladilhe), "From a Prison" (Hahn), "Minns-j lied" (Brahms), "Die Mainacht (Brahms), "Spring Waters" (Rachmaninoff), "Afton Waters'* (Hume), "Windy Nights" (Stanford), "Song of the Palanquin Bearers" (Shaw), 'Sing No More" (Aitken). Encores will be selected from the favourite operas, "La Boheme. j "La Tosca," and others. Special request numbers will include "Lord Randall' and "Five Eye 3." two wonderful sufceesses. beveral attractive groups of pianoforte solos will be plaved by Mr Albert Sciarretti, who has become' a popular favourite with Christchurch music-lovers. The box plan for this concert will be on view at The Bristol up till noon to-day, and afterwards at the Theatre Royal Sweet Shop and The Bristol, where also day sale tickets may be purchased. At the Theatre doors to-nigl. tickets at the unreserved prices will bo held for sale. Patrons are requested to take advantage of the day sale, and thus avoid crowding at the theatre doors. Doors will open at 7 sharp, and the concert will commence at 8. This will be Mr Hislop's final appearance in this City, as his engagements ahead will prevent the possibility of any return visit. Th experience of the great firm of J. and N. Tait has been an extremely happy one, in bringing great artists to Australia and New Zealand, and the support accordet! their artists has always been gratifying, and particularly pleasing is the record success o Joseph Hislop.
