HOUSING SCHEME.
FOR WELLINGTON RAILWAYMEN. [THE PBESS Special Service.] November 26. Arrangements have been made between the Railway Department 2nd the Commissioner of Crown Lands whereby a total of 200 of the sections opened up by the Lands Department for public selection in the Butt Valley are to be retained for choice by railwaymen who may be sent to Wellington, The sections "are being marketed under tho Government scheme for the relief* of tlie housing shortage in the capital, and include some of tho best land in the Hutt Valley. This move by tho Railway Department is pursuant to the promise made by the Prime Minister that housing facilities would be given to railwaymen who might be transferred from one centre to another under the reorganisation scheme, which is now being finalised, and of which the building of the new railway workshops and specialising in-various kinds of work is. a part. The Railway Department is preparing a scheme to finance the men if necessary.
