GOVERNMENT OF INDIA.

COMMISSION TO BE SET UP. (by cable—peess association—copybioht.) (australian and n.z. cable association ) LONDON, November 22. In the House of Commons Ear] Win-, terton, Under-Secretary for India, moved the second reading of the Bill for the appointment of a new Commission on responsible government in India. Mr Ramsay Mac Donald, supporting the motion, said that the Labour Government in 1924 hoped to report on the subject, but unfortunate events in India precluded that action. He reserved Labour's criticism till the debate on the personnel of the Commission. DEBATE IN COMMONS. (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z AND SUN CABLE.) (Received November 23rd, 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 22. In the House of Commons, the Rt. Hon. James Macpherson supported tho Bill for the appointment of a new Commission on responsible government in India. The Rt. Hon. Josiah Wedgwood declared that the Government had chosen a most unfortunate moment and method of appointing the Commission. The measure was likely to do more harm to relations between Britain and India than anything the Government had hitherto "done. The Indian Assembly s assent ought to have been obtained before the appointment. M. Saklatvala moved the rejection ot the Bill, which he described as a hypocritical attempt to deceive India and the world. Indians did not want a Com mission, but a round-table conference. Several Labourites attacked the Bill, but did not support its rejection, and the Bill was read a second time with out division.
