SUMMER TIME.

MEETING POORLY ATTENDED. Although every sports club in Christchurch was circulated and the meeting was well advertised, only four representatives of bowling clubs and one swimming enthusiast attended a public meeting called at tho Council Chambers last evening to consider what steps should be taken to commemorate suitably the passing of Mr T. K. Sidey's Summer Time Bill. The Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer) announced that, in view of the Btnall attendance, it was considered better that the sports bodies should be circulated and asked to open official subscription lists.

The secretary <Mr W. E. Leadley) was instructed, iu conjunction with the Town Clerk, t to circularise tho sports control bodies of Christchurch, enclosing subscription lists afterwards to bo handed in to the Town Olerk, when a meeting could be called to decide the form the testimonial should tnke. "The small attendance is a proof of the good the Bill is doing," remarked a bowler. "Everybody is out taking advantage of the added daylight."

"NOT THE ONLY BILL PASSED."

When a letter with reference to the proposed tribute to Mr T. K. Sidey in connexion with the passing of the Summer Time Bill, and containing a subscription list which it was asked should bo forwarded to the various clubs, was received at a meeting of the Canterbury Bowing Association last night, the proposals was severely criticised by the chairman, Mr F. D. Kosteven. "This thing is being overdone, stated Mr Kestevcn. "I've never seen such a thing—he has received tremendous kudos." ,-A member: Look at the weather we've had since it came in! "It is not the only Bill that has been passed," continued Mr Kesteven. "Mr Sidey has been working for it for a number of years—l don't know what the Prohibitionists would want if they were successful. They've been working for Prohibition all their lives." (L l?was er decided to hold the subscription list in the meantime.
