TWO SUICIDES.
VERDICTS AT INQUESTS. The inquest into the death of a married man, Robert William Hesp, a labourer, who resided at 44 Shrewsbury street, was opened before the Coroner (Mr H. A. Young) yesterday. Deceased had been found with his throat cut on Monday. Evidence of identification was given by Arthur Gordon Pearce. Mrs Bess Hesp, wife of deceased, stated that she list saw her husband on November 21st at 9.30 a.m., when he left the house. He had said something, but she had not heard what it was. Witness thought he was going to her brother's house. He had newer mentioned that he intended to take his own life. He had been out of work for a considerable time and that had worried him. He had also been in illhealth and had been very depressed on Monday morning. Stanley Walter Binns, estate agent, gave evidence of having . found the body. He had immediately rang the police and a doctor. Evidence of a constable- was to the effect that he had visited the place where the body had been found, and he had made a search for the razor, which was discovered about fifteen yards from where the body lay. The razor was covered in blood and was then in its case.
The Coroner returned a .verdict that Hesp died as the result' of a razor wound self-inflicted while in a depressed state of mind arising from a state of ill-health and misfortune.
Yesterday, before the Coroner, Mr E. D. Mo&ley, the)- inquest into • the death of Jonathan Hague, aged, 40 years, was opened. Hague had been found hanging at his residence at 111 Manchester street on November 19th. Constable M. Griffin stated that as the result of a call he had visited a house at 111 Manchester street. He went upstairs and found Hague hanging. He cut the body down, and as it was still warm he carried out artificial respiration until a doctor arrived. The doctor examined the body and proncnced life extinct. The Coroner returne'd a verdict that Hague had committed suicide by hanging while in a depressed state of mind through behur out of work.
