U.S. PRESIDENCY.
THE PARTY NOMINEES. (BT CABUS—PRBSS ASSOCIATION—COPTBIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) WASHINGTON, November 19. Interest has been attracted in political circles by a poll of newspaper editors, and political leaders throughout the country, conducted by a political magazine, which forecast the nomination of Mr Al. Smith as the Democratic Presidential candidate, and Mr Herbert Hoover as the Republican candidate. It was presumed that President Coolidge would not be an aspirant. Mr Smith received many times more votes than any others, Senator Beed being second. Mr Hoover, however, maintained only a small lead over exGovernor Lowden, of Illinois, as the Republican choice.
