LAWN TENNIS.

MATCH COMMITTEE MEETS. A meeting of the Match Committee of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association was held yesterday. Present were: Messrs P. R. Harman (chairman), W. N. Seay, Wm. Goss, iA. Borrows, W. S. Somerville, J. Mercer, and Ir. Browning, and Mr H. G. Wake, president of the "Junior" Association. The committee decided that the Junior A inter-club competition matches should be continued on Saturdays, and not on some evening during the week, as previously decided. Matters in connexion with the annual provincial championships, which will take place at Wilding Park on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, January 26th, 27th, and 28th, 1928, were discussed. It was resolved that, in addition to the usual five championship events, there should be two junior events—the boys' junior championship singles and girls' junior championship singles—open to all boys and girls under eighteen years of age. The committee decided that all the championship events should be the best of three advantage sets, except the junior events, where the third set only should be advantage. It was resolved that the Association should provide one pair of balls for each match in each event. Mr R. D. Harman was appointed referee for the tournament. It was decided that the Tournament Committee should be the members of the Match Committee, together with the following, subject to their consent: Mr H. G. Wake (ball boys), Mr P. E. Bean' (empires), and Mr M. G. Somervillo (Press steward). With reference to a letter from the secretary of the Junior Association, it was resolved to approve of the constitution as submitted, and. the matter ot giving two shields and a sum for sundry expenses was deferred pending more definite information as to what the shields were required for. A letter was read from the hon. secretary of the New Zealand Olympia Games Association asking the Association to become a member of the Canterbury branch of that body, and suggesting that all affiliated clubß should become affiliated. Mr Goss expressed the opinion that affiliated clu.ba should become linked up through the Association's affiliation, and not direct, and this view was shared by the committee. It was resolved that the matter be referred to the Association. The committee resolved that a challenge be lodged with the New Zealand Association for a contest for the Anthony Wilding Shield, at present held by Wellington, the contest to take place on February 24th and 125 th, 1928. On the motion of Mr W. Gobs, it was resolved -that the Otago Association be asked to 6end a representative team to Christchurch again this season, in consequence of the Canterbury team having played at Dunedin twice in succession. The secretary (Mr R. Browning) stated that he had received an invitation from Westport to arrange for a team of at least six men and six ladies to visit there between the Christmas and the New Year holidays, during their Carnival week.' The Westport people had offered to provide accommodation for the ladies.of the party and to arrange a comprehensive programme of matches and sightseeing. The arrangements were loft in the hands of Mr Browning to endeavour to secure a team. Any players who would like to make this trip are requested to communicate with him. LYNDHURST V. LOWCLIFFE. On Saturday th* Lyndhurst Tennis Club journeyed to LowclifEe to play a friendly return match, and, although the weather was decidedly inclement, an enjoyable time was spent by all.
