SPIRITUALISM.
TO THE EDITOR OT THE PBES9. Sir, —It is with no little amusement that I read the opinion of Mr Bower Black upon the above subject. In the first place how can he or anyone else give an opinion upon a subject of which he knows nothing? It is very clearly shown by his ridiculous statements that he is entirely ignorant of the teachings or principles of Spiritualism. He speaks of it as a "fancy faith." There's nothing new or "fancy" about it. Spiritualism was known several thousands of years B.C. (refer to the Bible), while the religion Mr Bower Black follows originated in 1529 A.D. in the ancient city of Spires in Bavaria on the left bank of the Rhine. Which is the fancy one? Spiritualism doesn't consist of "table-rapping and dark rooms" in tho manner he suggests. In some cases a darkened room is necessary in the first stages of development, in exactly the same way as it is necessary to the photographer for the development of his plates. Mr Bower Black admits that the New Testament leads us to believe in another life, and) yet he seemingly doubts it. What docs he believe? Spiritualism and the absolute certainty of another life after this have given comfort to thousands of wives and mothers even, during the late war I can quo'te an instance where a child of six had passed out, and the gnetstricken mother asked ber minister it he" thought her child had gone to Heaven. His reply was that it was possible she had, providing she had committed no sin. Ye gods! What sin could a child of six commit that would warrant it being kept out or Heaven? A Spiritualist would have answered that most decidedly it had conoto Heaven, with the certainty or the mother meeting her baby again. My advice to Mr Bower Black is to investigate Spiritualism honestly and not take anyone else's word for it,, and I will guarantee that if ho is fortunate in getting the proofs of spirit return that I have had he will have changed his opinion inside of a year.— Yours, etc., alfred G MILEg Linwood, November lDth.
