COUNTY COUNCILS.
AMURI. The monthly meeting of the Amuri County Council was held recently, there being present: Crs. M. Bethell (chairman), H. R. Davison, J. W. Black. G. 0. Rutherford, K. Mercer, and W. Harold Atkinson. It was decided to repair Bath street, Hanmcr Springs, when the opportunity arose. The chairman made a report regarding the cleaning of the water-races, and on the motion of Cr. G. 0. Kutherford, seconded by Cr. W. H. Atkinson, it was decided that the chairman and Crs. H. R. Davison and K. L. Jameson make an inspection of all those races not cleaned. Regarding the electrification of the county, the chairman moved, and Cr. J. W. Black seconded: "That the Amuri County Council agrees to co-operate with the Waipara County Council in establishing an Electric Power Board for the supply of electric current to the combined area, provided the matter is worked on a guarantee system. Also that a provisional committee be set up of three delegates from each county." The motion was carried and the chairman and Crs. G. 0. Rutherford and J. J. Duncan were appointed delegates. The Rotherham Amateur Sports Club wrote asking that the Council grade a cycle track in the Rotherham Domain. It was decided that this be done when the grader was available, providing the work did not take longer than two days, any ploughing to be done by the club. The Waipara County Council wrote stating that it could not see its way to pay a subsidy of 5s per head on keas. It was decided to call for tenders for placing 1000 cubic yards of metal on the Hurunui-Mason road. Regarding the hospital rate, it was decided that the Council should co-operate with the Waipara County Council in calling a conference of local bodies in the North Canterbury Hospital Board district with the object of having a general discussion on hospital matters, the levy, and the way of raising stich levy in particular. It was further decided that the delegates already appointed should confer with delegates from the Waipara County Council to arrange preliminaries for such conference. Tenders for the erection of the Mason bridge were received, and that of C. J. Lawrence for £1137 was accepted subject to the approval of the Public Works Department. . Tenders for the approaches and iron work for the same bridge were referred to the j Waiau and Lyndon riding Councillors and the chairman, with power to act.
