FOUND SHOT.
BODY NOT IDENTIFIED. j i The body of a man was found last j evening in a dip at the top of the old zig-zag, on the Lyttelton side of the | Lyttelton-Sumner road. Death was ap- | parently due to a revolver shot in the head. So far the body has not been identified. The discovery was made by Mr Frank W. Ward, of Colenso street, Sumner. Mr Ward was walking on the new road, and stepped off it for shelter while he lit a cigarette. He saw the body, and thought at first it was that of a man asleep. On making a closer examination he found that the man was dead and immediately communicated with the Lyttelton police. The body was removed to the Lyttelton raorgue. The body was that of a man of about 45 years oi age, about oft 7in in height, clean-shaven, fair hair turning grey, nearly bald. It was dressed in a dark grey suit, with a light felt hat, new, with black hand; light raincoat, made by New Zealand Farmers, white cotton shirt, cream fuji silk collar, purple tie, white silk scarf, Cashmere socks, black lace-up boots, size 8. What should materially assist in the identification was the fact that the deceased wore elastic stookings such as are worn by sufferers from varicose veins. Deceased had false teeth, top and bottom. Beside the body was found a six-chambered Blue Jacket revolver, a cheap type, .32 calibre. Death had evidently occurred about 48 hours previously.
