ROWING NOTES.

(By Coxswain.) The prograanme for the I/yttelton Tegatta, to l)a rowed oil Saturday, December l'thi consists of nine races, to be rowed in the fallowing order: —Youths' Pair Oar, Senior Pair Oar, Junior Pair Oar, Maiden Pair Oar, Youths' Single Sculls, Senior Double Houlls, Junior Double Sculls, Maiden Double Scullb, and Youths' Double Sculta. The first race is timed to start at 1 p.m. There has not befm much training done from the Canterbury ahed during the past week, members waiting for the regatta, orews to be picked. Mr H. Ay era, however, has beep out coaching a couple of maiden scullers, Coater and P. Godfrey, in heavy boats. They should race well with careful coaching, but it ia very doubtful if they can hold the pace with the Union pair, A. Rogers and F. Duggan. 'The Avon Club commenced tbejr Allard Fours on Wednesday night, a large number of enthusiasts being present. In the first heat, Webb (atr), MacDufi (8), Lyons (8, Frame (bow) beat Ironsides (str), Bushworth (3), Telfer (2), Kelly (bow). Webb led throughout and won easily by five lengths. In the pecopd heat, Barkle (str), H. Adkins (3), T. Adiins (3). J. Brixton (bow) beat Barwick (str), Henley (3), Scott (3), Bishop (bow) by three-quarters of a length. It was a good race, the crews being level till fifty yards from the finish, but Barkle had a lot in reserve and was not really extended. Palmer and Baichelor were drawn in the next heat, but Palmer defaulted, owing to the serious illness of H. Lenauze, the 2 man in his crew. Woodham'a orew had a bye. Good racing should be witnessed 1" the semi-finals between the four remapping crews, Barkle. Batchclor. Webb, and Woodha Tht members of the Union Club are not eliowiu# much enthusiasm over their Fieflident's Cup race, only four orews having entered. Several of the club s best oarsmen, including G. Duggan, W. Whittmgton. J<. Byers, and L. Duggan, have not entered, but the two former at least will be rowing Inter in the season. , , The Avon Club are to be congratulated on gaining 45 new members this season.
