ATHLETICS.

* CANTERBURY CENTRE. The executive of the Canterbury Centre of the U.Z.A.A.A. met last night. Present: Messrs W. C. Flewellyti (in the chair), R. Beattie, W. A. Ford, H. Leadbetter, C. S. Harper, E. Todd, T. Matthews, L. Hill, E. H. Hill, E. H. Cross, A. L. Lewis, C. H. Taylor, jun.. and G. G. Lock-wood (hou. secretary). It was decided to support the application of W. S. Hodge, of Dunedin, for reinstatement as an amateur cyclist. Permission was granted the Mastertofl Club to pay the travelling expenses of F. Grose and Ij. G. Dukey to its meeting oil January 22nd. Tho Caledonian Society (Methveo) and the South Canterbury Caledonian Society (Tiraaru) were granted permission to hold amateur events at their sports meetings. Tho _ programme of the Darfield Amateur Athletic Club for a meeting on December 27tb was approved, subject to a reduction of tho entrance fees in two events. An application for affiliation to tie Centre from the Heathcote Domain Monster Carnival Committee was left in the hands of the secretary. With reference to the New Zealand championships, to be held in Christchurch on December 9th and 10th. the N.Z.A.A.A. wrote suggesting that the 440 yards be held on the Saturday and the 440 "yards hurdles on the Friday. On the motion of the secretary, it vra3 decided to write the Jf.Z.A'.A.A. asking for the reasons for the alteration in the programme, pointing out that it would be better for the- competitors to have the 440 yards and 440 rards hurdles on the days first suggested, and that the programmes ha.) already been printtd. The condition of the grounds at English Park, on which seyeral of the championship events would be held, came up for discussion. It was pointed out that they were not what they should be, and something should be done immediately.
