BAND CONTEST.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Christchurch Band Contest Committee was held last night in the office of the secretary. Those present were: Sir H. F. Herbert (in the chair), Messrs J. H. Merrie, S. Barton. L. Oakes, W. F. Darby, 3."' Tucker, 0. L. Jones, A. M. Payne, J. Ersfcine, C. S. Thomas, G. Sey, F. L. EastBate, T..Andrews, F. E. Shaw, T. Hopkins, C. Taylor, L. Strachan, H. S. Hobbs, T. F. Hall, H. Sweney, VT. Geo. Brass (secretary), and Capt. Hoare. Mr D. Matheson, of Auckland, was appointed judge of the piping events, quickstep, and selection. Mr Claude King was appointed official photographer; Mr H. Sweney was appointed supervisor and Mr P.'L. Eastgate assistant supervisor. Mr C. A. Eendle was added to the General Committee. It was resolved to ask the GovernorGeneral to accept the position of patron and officially to open the contest. Messrs Chas. Begg and Co. offered a silver cup to be competed for b7 the C Grade bands. The Programme, Publicity, Finance, Ground, and Hall Committees alt made satisfactory reports. The total entry of bands comprises 15 A Grade, 15 B Grade, and 5 C Graie, and over 300 soloists.
