Personal Items.
Judge M. Gilfedder, of the Native Land Court, arrived in Christchurch yesterday, from the north. Messrs R. Merrall (Auckland), W. Fels (Dunedin), and A. Grant (Fairlie) are at Warner's Hotel. Mr R. R. Beaumont, of the Lands and Survey Office, Ohristchurch, has been transferred to InvercargilL Second-Lieutenant H. A. Kirby, late of the Hawke's Bay Regiment, has been appointed to the First Cadet Battalion, Canterbury Regiment. The Ven. Archdeacon F. G. Edwards was a passenger to Ohristchurch by yesterday's ferry steamer from Wellington.
Messrs J. C. Young (Palrherston North), J. S. Price (Invercargill), and B. W. Oldwan (Auckland) are at the Clarendon Hotel. Recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel are: Messrs E. Macdonald (Fairlie), R. Breeze (London), W. Gratwicko (Wellington), and T. D. Wallace (Dunedin).
Mr Maurice Ralph, representing Mr Joseph Hislop, the famous tenor, is at present in Christchurch making arrangements for the Christchurch season in the Theatre Royal next week. The Rev. James Aitken, of Gisborne, was unanimously elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Church Of New Zealand at last night's opening session of the General Assembly. Mr H. C. C. Moule, examiner, to the Associated Board, R.A.M. and R.C.M., arrived in Christchurch last night from the West Coast. Mr Moule,, son of a former- president of Corpus Qhristi College, was born at Cambridge, and educated at Marlborough College and at Trinity College, Cambridge. Ho received his musical education under the late Professor Charles Wood, Professor Dent, and Dr. Rootham. Mr Moule is now a member of the University Faculty Board for Music, and also one of the professors at the Royal College of Music.
