TURF GOSSIP. Nominations for the South Canterbury Jockey Club's Summer Meeting close at 8 o'clock to-night. Nominations for the Woodville Meeting close on Friday. This week's racing in New Zealand will be connned to tue Spring Meoting of the Winton Jockey Club, to be held to-dav and to-morrow, and the Levin Racing Club's Annual Meeting on Saturday. Prior to his death in England, the Kinloch studinaster, Mr J. F. Buchanan, expressed a wish tnatthetrus.ee* should dispose of the whole of the stud at such time as they thought opportune, and arrangements have now been made to hold a dispersal sale at Kinloch immediately following the January bloodstock sales at Trentham. lhe 6tud comprises the English stallions Paladin and Djacquenod, and fourteen brood mares with foals at foot, by Martian, Limond, Paladin, and Diacquenod. The annua) draft of yearlings will be sent to the Trentham sales Pvne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., and WVight, Stephenson and Co.. Ltd., will act in conjunction in conducting the tale, which should arouse keen interest throughout the Dominion.

R. Emerson's team at Riccarton has been strengthened by a four-year-old gelding by Saxby from the Bezonian mare Carol Singer. He is a likelylooking sort and is Emerson's own property. Kilbox, who has had a twelve months' spell, has also rejoirexl Emerson's stable. The four-year-old gelding Scythia by fatala from Greenstrect has been taken in hand again by F. P. Claridge after a lengthy spell in the paddock. In the course of an interesting article on the luck that at times comes to a breeder of bloodstock, a Melbourne writer remarks: "When Mr E. E. D. Clarke sent Mr J. E. Brewer a draft for £SOOO and gave him a free hand to buy a stallion and some mares in England, he did remarkably well for himself and the breeding industry. Mr Brewer picked up The Welkin cheap as chips at £BOO, and Light for about £IOO. Just think of it, the sire ana dam of the record stake winner Gloaming for £9OO the pair! After buying The Welkin and ton well-bred mares, including Tepo (grand-dam of Trivalve), and paying all expenses, freight, insurance, etc., Mr Brewer was able to return Mr Clarke a balance of £ls which was left of the £5000." The Welkin proved one of the most successful sires imported to Australia and bis descendants have won prise money to the amount of £281,477.

Hie "Sydney Morning Herald" of November 10th had the following reKrdingr the result of the New Zealand rby -When it was announced that Br. J. Mason intended bringing Agrion to Bydney for the A.J.C. Derby, it was considered that he held a strong hand, for his judgment in trips to Australia has seldom erred. Agrion went amiss on the tracks, made hard by. the lack of rain, and bos trainer declined to persevere with him, preferring to ease him up in an endeavour to have him right again for the New Zealand classic. Whether he would have beaten Trivalve, who at the time was not crowned with his present glories, can never be decided, but Mason's judgment was right again, for yesterday Agrion did all that was asked of him at Biccarton. Agrion had his first start in the Breeders' Plato at Randwick, but was unplaced. He opened his stake winning account with a third in the Irwell Handicap, decided on Derby Day at Riccarton last year, and followed this by taking the Spring Nursery Handicap two days later. Gascony beat him in the Great Northern Foal Stakes, but he won the Royal Stakes at Dunedin. the Middle Park Plate at Riccarton, the .Thirty-fifth Challenge Stakes, and finished second to his stable-mate. Eulalie, in the C.J.C Champagne Stakes. Inclusive of yesterday's race, which was worth £IOSO to the winner, Agrion has now won £3670 in stakes. To enumerate the races won by horses prepared by Mason would necessitate a very long list, nideeo. Going no further afield than Riccarton. he has to his credit five New Zealand Cups, five Stewards' Handicaps, 11 Welcome Stakes, 17 Derbys, rune Oaks Stakes, "nine Canterbury Cups, 16 Champasne Stakes, 18 Challenge Stakes, 17 tt/ddlepark Plates. and innumerable t>'fcer successes in less nnoortant event*. The success of Eulalie on Saturday in the Stewards' Handicap recalls a remark he made when interviewed on his arrival in Sydney for the Sprint Meeting. "What is there to bring Eulalie across forP" he an id when questioned as to the filly's absence. "A win at Randwick would onlv penalise her for our Meeting.'' In his comments on the Carnival .}£*, , ra SJ De " The Yeoman," in the 'Weekly Press" to-day, deals separately with tho two-year-olds, the three-year-olds, and the older horses that were seen at Riccarton.

TROTTING NOTES. Nominations for the Wellington Trotting Club's Summer Meeting close to-day. Acceptances for the Forbury Park Meeting fall due on Friday. Peter Bingen is to be treated to a good spell. Bridget Galindo is to be retired to tho stud. Being by Galindo, whose mares have been very successful matrons, Bridget Galindo should be a valuable acquisition to any stud. Matters are quiet at Addington after the carnival of last week, and the majority of horses have been eased up for a few days. Advantage of the slack period was taken bv the caretaker, and the inside of both tracks has been ploughed up. In consequence, only the outside portions will be available for work during the next week or two. E. C. Bertha Bingen, the full-sister to Great Bingen, Princess Ann, with colt foal at foot by Peter Chenault, and Parkwood were offered at auction by Messrs H. Matson and Co. on Monday, but failed to reacb the reserve placad on them. Bertha Bingen and Princess Ann were subsequently purchaied by the Yaldhurst studmaster and trainer. M. B. Edwards, and will be mated with Author Dillon. Princess Ann is an American-bred mare, and Bertha Bingen. though bred in New Zealand, comes direct irom American stock, her sire, Nelson Bingen, and her dam Bertha Bell, both having been imported from America by Mr E. X. Lelievre. Author Dillon was represented by two winners at the recent Meeting at in Author Jinks and Acre and with consorts of the breeding of Prinress Ann and .Bertha Bingen he will be given every opportunity further to prove his value as a sire. * The memory of the late Mr C. F. Mark is to be perpetuated by the Auckland Trotting Club, who intend to have erected a memorial fountain of handsome design with an appropriate tablet. It will probably be erected on the lawn just inside the main entrance to the enclosure. The committee lias decided to leave the matter in the hands of the president, Mr J. Rowe, the architect, Mr Norman Wade, and the secretary. Points of interest in connexion with last week's racing rt, Addington are mentioned by "Le Soldat" in his contribution to the "Weekly Press" today. WINTON J.C. TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME.
