RURAL INTERMEDIATE CREDITS.

FRUITLESS OPPOSITION. (FBISS AMOGUTXOV TSWHUIf.) WELLINGTON, November 14. The House of Representatives this evening considered amendments of the Rural Intermediate Credit Bill proposed by the Governor-General The Prime Minister explained that the amendments were of a machinery nature, and had been agreed to by the .Departments concerned. Considerable opposition was taken by Labour members to the proposal to make it possible to deposit rural intermediate credit funds in other financial institutions than the Public Trust Office. They contended that this step was being taken in the interests of tho Associated Banks. Sir Joseph Ward said it would be a pity to allow the scheme to start with a suspicion that any change was made in the interests of the Associated Banks. He knew this was not the case, beoause only one bank could handle Government moneys. Labour members challenged.the adoption, of the amendments, whioh, on a division, were adopted by 84 votes to eight. The tfhole of the amendments were then accepted, and the House rote at 1 a.m. till 2.90 p.m. to-morrow.
