Mr E. P. George (Bath) is at Warner's Hotel. Mr J. L. Bonythorn was elected Lord Mayor of Adelaide unopposed, «ays an Adelaide cablegram. At yesterday's meeting of the Christchurch Tramway Board a motion of sympathy with Mr J. Wood in the loss of his wife was carried.
Mr F. Pawson and Mr A. Pritchard, railway business agents, left for Wellington last evening to attend a conference of the commercial branch of the New Zealand Railways. At last evening's meeting of the Christchurch Bowling Centre a motion was passed expressing sympathy with Mr C. M. Clarke, of the Imperial Club, in his recent bereavemenet. Mr C. E. Foweraker, Lecturer in Charge of the School of Forestry, left for Wellington last night to attend a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Institute of Foresters. Mr H. J. Edwards, district manager for J. J. Niven and Co., Gisborne, for the past 10 years, has arrived in Christchurch to take up a similar position in the Canterbury and Westland district. Guests at the United Service Hotel include Messrs J. M. Pettigrew (Wellington). Chas. Sasselle (Melbourne), C. J. Doudy (Sydney), J. Watson (Pukaki Downs), and A. E. Dormer (Dunedin). The Bishop of Christchurch, the Rt. Rev. Campbell West-Watson, announces that the Rev. Harold Purchas, Vicar of Geraldine, has been appointed Archdeacon of Timaru, in succession to Archdeacon Julius, who becomes Dean of Christchurch. The Rev. J. H. Mackenzie, clerk of the Presbyterian General Assembly, the Rev. W. J. Comrie, general treasurer, the Rev. G. Budd, superintendent of Home Missions, and a number of delegates will arrive by this morning s ferry steamer. Southern members will arrive to-night by the express.
