NEW CLAIMS.
TRAMWAY UNION'S DEMANDS. Recently the Tramway Employees' Union served demands for a new industrial agreement on the Board. At the Board meeting yesterday Mr A. S. Taylor (chairman) said that the present agreement would run out next month. The demands had been analysed, and it was shown that if they were granted it would mean an added expenditure of £9244. He gave the following particulars of increased wages sought by the union:— £ Motormen and conductors ... 4198 Permanent way ... 2463 Overhead and power house ... 266 Car shed, cleaners, etc., ... 1059 Addition to holidays ... 879 Additional cost o£ uniforms ... 379 Total 9244 In addition, the mechanics in the workshop, who were under a separate award, had lodged a request for an nual holidays on full pay. If eight days were given it would cost £350, making the total £9594. The petition stated that about 40 men would be affected. All the other branches of the service already received annual holidays. Some of the men affected had been employees of the Board for a number of years.
