INSPECTOR ANNOYED.
* "GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS." Members of the Christchurch Tramway Board smiled at the meeting yesterday afternoon, when Mr Frank Thompson (General Manager) read a complaint regarding some tram passengers.
Mr H. Macintosh (Chief Traffic Inspector) wrote enclosing copy of a. memo handed in by one of the traffic inspectors when on point duty. His letter stated: "I will ask you to do what you can to prevent a recurrence. It is the first time I have ever heard of this class of nuisance."
The memo was as follows: "I have to report that I was on point duty at the Bank corner at 5.20 p.m. on the 19th ultimo, when three trams loaded with pupils from a girls' secondary school were returning from the sports at Eiccarton and were proceeding north into the Square. As the second car drew level with me, the pupils on the top started throwing pine twigs down oh top of my head. When the third car drew level the pupils on this followed suit, and threw quite big twigs down. '' This, apart from causing an annoyance, was a positive danger, and it was impossible to control traffic when being bombarded in this manner. The traffic at this time was pretty thick." —(signed) J. James, "Girls will be girls," said Mr A. S. Taylor (chairman). I don't think we can do anything." "He can't be much of a humorist," said Mr J. A. Piesher. "Not a ladies' man," said Mr H. Pearce. No action wai taken. i
