LOSSES ON TRAMS.
ST. MARTINS LINE
Mr A. S. Taylor, chairman of tho Christchurch Tramway Board, gave some particulars of losses on the various lines at the recent meeting called by the Citizens' Association. Yesterday, at the Board meeting, a letter was received from Mr F. Holland, secretary of the St. Martins Residents' Association, as follows:—"I am directed to forward a disclaimer to your recent statement that the St. Martins line has "never paid. Up' to the time of removing the special rate the line had never actually lost, as any denciency was made up by the ratepayers. We think it hardly fair to make such statements, as everybody is not familiar with the old conditions, and only half statements are misleading." *j r , Ta y lo r said the line had not P u j the resi dents had made up the deficiency themselves out of ates. He gave figures of the deficiencies, which were £1073 for the year ending 6 > and £1163 at March a' , The S ene ral concern had suttered a loss, he said, but a rate had been levied The St. Martins rate levied for the year ended March 31st, 1919, was £7oo 13s Id; for the followmg,year it was £623 5s 3d. The letter was received.
