LYTTELTON NEWS.

Bailway Dance. A dance arranged by the Lyttelton Railway Ambulance Division was held in the Excelsior Hall on Saturday night, and proved very popular, a large number of dancers being present. Music was provided by Eddie Jones' orchestra, and a number of novelty dances caused ranch amusement. Fire Brigade. The Fire Brigade has recently resumed possession of the whole of the basement of the Fire Brigade Station. Formerly part of the basement was used by tho Borough Council works staff as a store-room. With the purchase of the motor-truck the Brigade became hard put to it to house their plant efficiently, and at a, meeting of tho Borough Council recently it was decided that the storeroom should be moved to the Council stables and the basement handed over to the Brigade. The work of installing the new electric fire-alarm siren is now being carried out by the borough electrical staff. The siren will be placed on the bell tower. The smaller bell has been removed, bnt the large bell, which came originally from the old Chester street fire station in Christchurch, will be retained for emergency.
