Two men of eminence in their dayMr Joseph Chamberlain and Lord Avebury—would have joined in the opposition to the high lace-up boot, which iit said to be coming into fashion again. Both the statesmen and the banker wore the old-fashioned long obsolete elastic-sided boots, known for some obscure reason as "Jemimas." _ The reason for the preference was in each case the same—the time saved in putting the boots on. An experiment has just shown that it takes one minute 25 seconds to pnt on a pair of lacing boots, whereas Wellingtons, that are also again becoming popular, can be slipped on in five seconds.
