Commander C. F. Brooke. R.N., whose term of service with the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy has expired, left Wellington by the Rotorna on his return to England. Commander Brooke has been for the last two years in command of H.M.S. Laburnum. Bishop Sedgwick, of Waiapu. who has been spending a holiday overseas since last January, returned by the Port Hardy. Bishop Sedgwick and Mrs betlcwick made an extensive motor tour m Yorkshire. The Bishop participated in several church services in his native county of Hertfordshire. The R« y . Dr . R Scott West Mo( j er _ ator-General -of the Presbyterian Unirch of Australia, accompanied by Mrs West, arrived at Auckland from Sydney by the Marama. He was to leave Auckland at the end of tho week for Christchurch, to attend the Clmrch ssemb,y of the Presbyterian " D j" *l; °- Veitcn > formerly of Norsewood Hawke's- Bay, arrived at Auckland from London by the Port Hardy on Thursday. Dr. Veitch left New Zealand before the war and joined the forces in England. He returned to live in Jl-ngland after the war and later retired. He will spend some time visiting relatives in New Zealand

Mr H. J. Edwards, district manager for J J. Niren and Co., Ltd., at Gisborne for the past 10 years, has arrived in Chnstchurch to take up a similar position for the Canterbury and Westland districtsJhiringhis residence in the northern town Mr Edwards identified himself with all forms of sport. He was president of the Country Cricket Association, Tennis Club, Athletic and Cycling Union, and vice-president of many other sports clubs. He was also actively connected with the Masonic and Rotary movements, and before leaving was the recipient of many tokens of esteem from the members of the various societies and clubs he was connected with. Mr Edwards takes up his new duties today.
