Early potatoes haTe suffered considerably, and large numbers of tomato plants, which had been planted out, have suffered. It is not thought that a great deal of damage has been done to the tsone fruits. The annual Armistice church parade of Territorials and Cadets was held yesterday morning. The parade, which was under the command of Captain \>. Smith, numbered 93. Assembling at the drill hall, the parade marched to the Methodist Church, where Chaplain Major Read conducted the service. He based his address on a "Consecrated Life." Hymns suitable to the occasion were sung, and the choir sang Edwin A. Clare's anthem, "Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem." At the close of the service the National Anthem was sung. The Territorials were under the command of Lieutenant H. K. Kippenberger, and the Cadets Lieutenant G. C. Beattie.

KAIKOURA. Following warm weather, a cold snap was experienced on Friday and light, showers of rain fell. There is no definite information as to when the Middle Creek Bridge will be reinstated The bridge was destroyed in the 1923 flood, and differences of opinion have existed as to the dimen sions of the bridge. The Public Works Department's latest request is for a live-span bridge. Six chains nor'-west of the site of the bridge a one-span structure suffices, and the Councillors cannot understand why such an extravagant bridge is asked for. The County Council intends that some form of control over campers along the foreshore and on the scenic reserves must be effected, and a fee of 5s is to be charged as a guarantee that camping sites will be kept tidy and the destruction of the trees and native birds shall be kept in check. At the monthly meeting of the South Marlborough Progress League, Mr T. Harlo presided over a moderate attendance. Mr A. E. Harris was elected a member. The question of fish transport was considered, and the matter was left in the hands of the president. A letter was received from the South Island Motor Union concerning third party insurance. The letter was received. The question of cruelty to animals was brought before the meeting, the matter being left in the hands of the secretary to obtain further information. It was decided to ask the PublSo "Works Department to submit a report regarding the progress of soundings for the Conway Bridge.
