Kovember 23—Ashhurst-Pohangina R.C. Vtrtmher 17th—Oamaru J.C. (at Wingatui). TROTTING FIXTURES. November 19, 23—Otahubu T.C. Spring. A'oTember 25, 26—Forbury Park T.C. Spring. December 17—Oamaru J.C. (two events;. December 2Gth—(lore T.C. Annual. TURF GOSSIP. Acceptances for the- A.sliliurst-Poliaii-gina Meeting close on Tuesday next. To-day's contest for the G. G. Stead Gold Cup will mark the nineteenth in the history of the race, and a glance through the honours board since 1908 will reveal the names of probably the best horses saddled up in Xcw Zealand. The list includes such outstanding performers as Bobrikoff (twice), Los Angclos, Counterfeit, Bon Rove, WarHep, deputation, Desert Gold (twice), The Toff, Sasanofl", Gloaming, Surveyor, Winning Hit (Australasian time record;, Many Kittle, itazzlo Dazzle, Gold Light. Kunnymede, and Rapine. Some fast times have been recorded in connexion with the event, as in addition to Winning Hit's Australasian record, ■which still stand: for tho distance, Gold Light registered 2.4, and Nasanofl! ".".. Three year-olds have been very eurcpgsfnl since the race was instituted, to fewer than ten prevailing in the nineteen contests, while four-year-olds have won three limes, five-year-olds four, six-year-olds once, and the aged division on one occasion only. In today's race the ages of the field are: —i One aged, one six years, one four years, and one three years. At the Dunedin Spring Meeting last m nth Taboo won the 11-anfurly Handicap, one mile, from end to end, and two races later repeated the trick in •very detail in the Telegraph Handicap over the same journey. The track was rery heavy, and Taboo was not troubled by it. He is in two races to-day, and if the track should be holding—which seemed unlikely at a late hour last night—he may attempt a repetition of his creditable southern performance. He will be ridden to-day by A. E. Ellis, who rode him on the occasion of hia second snecess at Wingatui. Nineompoop has only to run up to his first day's form to be on hand at the finish of the Cressy Handicap at Riccarton to-day. On his showing on Wednesday, Ohide, with C. Emerson in the saddle, will not be friendless in the Pioneer Handicap to-day. The Mason-trained Wayward was prominent for the greater portion of a nine-furlong journey on Monday last, and under the minimum impost in the Members' Handicap to-day will have plenty of followers. The Chokebore stable will be represented by Green Cloth, Pull FeatheT, Centrepiece, Skyquest, and Front Rank in to-day's programme at Biccarton. Three more victories will bring Sir G. Clifford's total number of winners np to 600. With the benefit of a race. Gold Brick will make matters interesting for the remainder of the field in the Cressy Handicap to-day. He was only beaten into third place in the last few strides at the end of the same distance, seven furlongs, on Wednesday. Battle Colours is improving with racing, and his turn Is not far off. The same remark applies to bis stablemate Moorland. Cannonball. winner of the trotters' race at Aldington yesterday, was worked as a pacer earlier in bis track career. At the pacing gait he won three timce (»t hia first three starts), and since his conversion to the trotting gait he has scored four wins, his biggest success being that of yesterday, when he met a high-class field. An. interesting fact about yesterday's results was the near relationship of three of the winners, Cannonball, Golden Devon, and Nourmahal. Cannonball's dam was Madam Shaw, by Edward Audubon, by J. J. Audubon, sire of Great Audubon, sire of Nourmahal and Golden Devon.
