"TE KOOTI TRAIL."
FILM HELD UP BY CENSOR.
(FBESS ABSOCIITIOH TZMSGBAU.) WHAKATANE, November 10. I Considerable indignation is expressed by Whakatane Films, Ltd., owing to the Censor holding up the Te Kooti Trail film. . Telegrams have been dispatched to Wellington in'an endeavour to have the film released in time to fulfil the Auckland engagement tomorrow night. A reply has been received from Mr Hockly, M.P., stating that the authorities are anxious that the film should not offend any Maori susceptibilities, and consequently it has beenvseen by Sir Maui Pomare and other Maori members. Members of Ringatu Church have asked to be allowed to see the' film before its release. They arrive at Wellington on Friday. A meeting of directors of the company this afternoon decided to send a telegram to Mr Hockly, M.P., emphatically objecting to Natives viewing the film, as it is considered grossly unfair to allow the Censor to be influenced, and insisting on withdrawing the film until the company could be represented at Wellington.
The following telegram has also been sent to Mr Coates: —"Film Te Kooti Irail held up by Censor for criticism by representatives of Maoris. Company strongly object to Censor allowing judgment to be influenced, particularly without company being represented New Zealand film production seriously menaced by such unfair action, serious financial loss and historic interest at stake. Please do not allow viewing by anyone without company being represented. We consider the censorship confidential and entirelv in the bands of the Censor. Please see that our interest* aw protected."
