SHOW OF DOGS.

SOME FINE ANIMALS. DOMINION-WIDE ENTRIES. Trie 22nd annual show of the Canterbury Kennel Club was opened »u the club's building on the A. and P. Association's Show Grounds yesterday, when the judging was completed. A total of 226 dogs from Napier, Wellington, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland were staged, as against 2-50 at the Royal Show of two years ago. The number this year was in excess of that at the provincial show last year. A new scheme was followed this there being only one, judge (Mr R. G. Makin, Wellington), and ho executed his big task expeditiously. The secretarial work was satisfactorily carried out by Mr W. C. Leversedge, and Mrs G. Biltdiff, formerly secretary for several years, assisted greatly. All classes were well represented. The ribbon for the best dog or bitch in the show was awarded to Mr W. Ballantyne's imported Scotch Terrier, Albourno Macbarty, which also gained many other prizes.- Harriers were well represented, and the type generally was high, the competition being between the Christchurch Hunt Club and the Brackenfield Hunt Club. There were many pens of Setters, both English and Irish, and here also the judge had to spend a considerable time in making his awards. Airedale Terriers were a strong class, with several outstanding entries, but it was. in the Cocker Spaniel classes that entries were most numerous. There were not a great number of toy dogs, but some really fine little animals were shown. The 'Ladies' Bracelet, the Stonycroft Cup, and the Grand Challenge Stakes went to Albourno Macbarty, owned by Mr W. Ballantyne. This morning shooting matches will be held at Sunnyside, beginning at 8.30 o'clock.
