COMING-OF-AGE PARTY.

The Orange Hall. Kaiapoi, was the scene of gaiety recently, when about 140 "guests gathered to celebrate the coming-of-age of Alma, only daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Edwards, Kaiapoi. Mrs Edwards received; her guests wearing a gown of black crepe de chine, relieved with gold lace, and Miss Edwards wore mauve crepe de chine, with lace of a deeper shade. The music lor dancing was supplied by Mr A. Johnston, and the duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Mr irl. Moyna. The evening passed swiftly with competitions, progressive euchre, and dancing, while songs by Mr G. Hirst were much appreciated. Competitions were won b.v Mrs J. Baker and Mr Len. Parnham, the euchre prizes by Mrs W. Livingstone and Mrs W. Lynskey, Messrs H. C. Jtevell and T. Lewitt. Mrs H. C. Revell and Mr R. Borland. A lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Collins (Christchurch) and Mr I. Moriss (Fernside). The toast of the evening was proposed by Mr S. Rinaldi, and Mr H. C. Revell, Mayor of Kaiapoi, responded on behalf of Miss EdKvards. The beautiful, birthday cake, decorated with 21 kewpies, was made hv Mrs H. C, Revell. The singing of ''Auld Lang Syne" brought a happy evening to a close.
