NO IMPROVEMENT AT PRESENT. Further reference to the proposal to widen Colombo street at the Bank of New Zealand corner was made at last night's meeting of the City Council. The By-laws, Finance, and Departmental Committee reported on the matter as follows: — The manager of the Bank of .New Zealand has written stating that consideration has been given to the Council's request .that the bank should sell a strip of land, 18 feet in width, along the Colombo street frontage of its property, but as the building is in such good ordter the bank does not feel justified in demolishing it and rebuilding. The manager also states that, if it is decided later on to do so, it mav be possible to come to terms with the Council in respect of the desired niece of land. line report was adopted.
