Mr Mallev, for defendant, said that he to run two men from Sumner to the. races, He had a few drinks there. The m3n had previously lost bis position when a department, had closed down and had been fishing at Lytlelton since then. Eraser wan fined £lO and ordered to take out a prohibition order. REFORMATIVE DETENTION.
Charlp3 Thomas Bath'in was charged with stealing goods to the value of £3 7s 6d, the pioperty o; Ruby Wallace, and of goods valued at £3 from .Tames Wallace. Senior-Sergeant Fitzpatrick said that the. accused had arrived from Wellington on Saturday morning and in the afternoon was found ransackig bedrooms at the Racecourse Hotel, Riccarton. When arrested poods including a barometer, fountain pens, cash, pyjamas, and shirts wore in his'possession. Mr Thomas, for the accused, said that lie had _ not been accused of dishonesty 1016, and had not followed criminal practice until Saturday. He was sentenced to twelve months' reVrmntne detention.
