STRUCK LIVE SHELL.

BOY SERIOUSLY INJURED. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) PALMERSTON N., November 7. While playing in the sandhills in the vicinity of Manawatu Heads yesterday, John Shortt, aged 11, the son of a beach resident, with other boys, found an unexploded shell, which apparently was fired by an artillery unit when in camp at Foxton during' lire-shell practice. Not knowing the danger of tampering with the shell, Shortt apparently hit it, when an explosion occurred. His arms, face, eyes, and one leg were all badly injured. The lad was removed to the Palmerston Hospital, and his condition is very serious.
