GIRL BURGLAR.
CAUGHT IN AUCKLAND. [THE PEE S3 Special Service.] AUCKLAND, November 7. Mr J. Nicholson, partner iu the Excelsior Tea-rooms at Avondale, was aroused at 1 o'clock this morning by the tinkle of breaking glass, and, suspecting burglars, grasped a "baton which he had in readiness. "When a hand cauio groping through the hole in the window Mr Nicholson was ready either to sei2e it or smite it, but to his amazement he saw the outline of • a girl, her shoes resting on the sill of the window and neat stockinged legs showing up, and in the moment of his hesitation the early morning rision disappeared. Mr Nicholson immediately got in touch with Constable Delaney, of the Avondale Police, and the pair procured a motor-car and began to search the district. On making a tour of the Great North road they espied a slim figure ahead and saw it was the girl. She tried to escape, hut the constable went in pursuit and soon captured her. The sequel was the appearance of a girl, aged sixteen years, at the Police Court- this_ morning, when she was charged with the attempted breaking and entering of the Excelsior Tearooms with intent to commit a crime. The girl was ordered "to appear at the Children's Court on November 19th.
