One hundred and twenty Chinese women were killed outright and 200 injured when a two-storeyed Chinese restaurant collapsed during a meeting to discuss the formation of a female Silk Workers' Union.
The audience stampeded following a cry of fire, and 000 were buried in thp ruins of brick and stone.
There were horrifying scenes, many of the bodies being mangled, and the crowd fought like maniacs to escape from the premises. The alarm proved false.
