NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN.
The monthly meeting of the - Christchurch branch of . the National -Council.oi..Womenwas held in the Chamber of Commerce on : Thursday evening. Delegates were' present from the Women Teachers' Association, Canterbury Mothers'- Union, W.0.T.U., Social Hygiene Society,' Mothers' Thought Guild, Home Economics Association; Girls' Friendly Society, Salvation Army, iJtad hon. members' group. It was stated that the City Council would receive the deputation concerning a crematorium for Christchurch at. its next meeting. Correspondence was received 'from the Free Kindergarten and the Howard League. The president stated that each, delegate should keep her Society in touch .with the work of the Council by. giving, a fiveminute report of every meeting—-the report should always have a place on the agenda.With regard to the Pan-Pacific Women's Conference to be opened in Honolulu on August 2nd, under the presidency ot Miss Jane Addams, Miss Jamieson moved that the Dominion president, Mrs Fraer, be the nominee of the branch as the National Council representative. This was seconded by Miss Howlett and carried. Mrs Fraer gave interesting information regarding the I.C.W. executive meeting held at Geneva last June. Mrs Machin introduced the subject of films suitable for children. The meeting again stressed the urgency of the appointment of a woman as co-censor of films. It was stated that in nearly all countries educational films were given entry free of duty. Mrs Fraer offered to give the Council a report of what other countries were doing in the matter of films.
