Mr W. H. Field (Otaki) has given notice to ask the Minister for Internal Affairs whether he has noticed that there is a proposal to import and place nightingales on the Little Barrier Island, and whether he will take steps to prevent any introduced birds being released on our bird sanctuaries which are intended for the preservation of our own native birds only. Mr Field says that not only will imported birds consume the food of and thus starve out our native birds, but there is strong reason for believing that with imported birds have come diseases which have much reduced in numbers, and in some regrettable cases absolutely destroyed some of our native birds. —Pbess Service. .
