STEERING GEAR GIVES WAY

A LORRY'S ADVENTURES^ (press association tiliqeau.) WELLINGTON, November 4. Cyril Hodgklnson, 24, who lives at Thorndbn, was driving,a three ton: lorry down Birdwood street, l£arori,; when the steering gear gave way. The} lorry crashed into a post and rail fence; and down into a gully, which at that pojht is : .over 200 feet deep. Fortunately the back wheel? caught on a tree and checked the lorry in its headlong plunge about thirty feet down. The driver had a miraculous escape. The lorry caught fire, and the fire brigade was summoned. Firemen were roped and lowered to the blazing lorry, which was badly damaged. The driver suffered cruises on the arms and legs and shock.
